Networks : A visual tour of OGSA : Grid Computing
Posted by idean on 2003/8/22 15:50:23 (19 reads)
Networks

The goal: diverse resources that interoperate. To get there, grids must be built on standard interfaces and protocols, and the Open Grid Services Architecture maps the path. In this article, we lay out the components of OGSA and explain their significance. The Globus Toolkit 3 is the first major implementation of the standard; others are under development.

Idan, don't get me wrong, I actually very much like your news submitions here, and I really thank you for your contribution to linuxiran.org!

However, I am getting a little suspicous here, because you seem to post whatever IBM publishes, wether it be related to GNU/Linux or not Are you an IBM employee ? :_D Just a guess !!!

Hello Aryan-

It looks like you figured me out! Yes, I do work for IBM. I always submit what is new from our Linux zone. I let the editor of the website decide if the LinuxIran community would find it interesting. I am glad you like my submissions so far. I will continue to keep posting new articles to the site if people find them interesting.

IBM and Idean, thanks you, but software patents?
Me and other admins here, have thorouly (sp?) enjoyed your articles till now, and are looking forward to more of them. I'm sure the community feels the same too.

It is an honour for us to have an IBM employee as one of our contributers. We are really thankful to IBM, for providing such detailed and interesting technical articles.

However, as you might have noticed, we will bring our site down for 24 hours on 27th of August, to show our protest regarding software patents in Europe. IBM is one of the major sponsors of software patents in europe, and is heavily lobbying to pass this unethical law in europe. If you have the ability, please reflect our voice and the general concern of the whole free software community to the upper management and decision makers.

I know, nothing will happen as a result of our protests, and big blue will continue with it's tradition of supporting software patents. But still, we would like to at least let our voice be heard.

Cheers

Re: A visual tour of OGSA : Grid Computing
A while back new_linuxiran and arash had an interesting discussion on the forums regarding grid computing. We offered to support these discussions and to help setup an experimental project in this regard. Unfortunately there was no feedback from the student community in this regard.
We still hope that we can do a little experimental project around grid computing.

While on the subject of Grid computing and clusters, I should mention a recent news here.

University of Kentucky, using 128 Athlon XP processors in a bewulf cluster, achieved 471 GFLOPS. The total cost of this project was around $39,000. This is the first time that the $100/GFLOPS barrier has been broken.

Take a look at http://aggregate.org/KASY0/press.html It's really cool.
