IEEE/ACM SC2005 Research Exhibit

This is the home page for our 12th major research exhibit at the IEEE/ACM Supercomputing conference. The exhibit is again under the title Aggregate.Org / University of Kentucky, the informal research consortium led by our KAOS (Compilers, Hardware Architectures, and Operating Systems) group here at the University of Kentucky's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

This year, SC attendance set a new record high: there were 9,777 attendees. Interestingly, only 3,443 were registered for the technical program... which means the primary draw probably was the 265 exhibits.

Work Presented

Although we had a very wide range of topics to discuss, the work emphasized in our exhibit is summarized on the following posters:

It is difficult to know how people will react to the exhibit until after the show begins. This year, of the many things presented, three seemed to be most interesting to the most people:

Physical Exhibit Layout

Unfortunately, the exhibits were scattered across 3 separate halls. The section we were in should have seen fairly high traffic, but it was the only part not directly entered from the rest of the conference. To get to us, you had to walk through a Microsoft exhibit that, from a distance, looked like it was a dead end rather than a passage to a major section. In any case, traffic in exhibits in our section was not as high as the attendance numbers would suggest. However, we estimate that our exhibit had over 500 visitors and average "dwell time" in our booth was almost certainly at a record high. A large fraction of the people we saw sought-out our booth, and for them we were easy to find.

The following is the final image from a slow, but high resolution, live feed from a fisheye camera mounted above our exhibit. Time-lapse movies will be posted soon.

The Aggregate. The only thing set in stone is our name.
